Thes was the last of the original Main Stream Anime and it has been quite a ride.
The anime adaptation of the series by The Walt Disney Company, was originally slated for a 2018 release, but due to a scheduling conflict with other anime, it was pushed back.
Now, with its 20th anniversary on the horizon, it looks like the series will be getting a proper follow-up.
While that could mean that the franchise could get a new installment, fans still seem quite eager to see what happens next.
As part of its anniversary celebrations, the Walt Disney Animation Studios will be releasing a new teaser trailer for the series, titled “What’s Next.”
The series, as it has since its inception, has a large fan base, and the series has a long history, with the main cast spanning from a young and energetic Rito to a frail and melancholy Ritsu to a young Riko and a long-suffering Ritsuka.
The series also features some characters who are older than they are in the anime, including Rito’s older brother Rito, who is a doctor.
The characters who don’t make it to the show are also not exactly forgotten, with a new character named Chichi who will make her debut in the series.
“What we’re doing now is really trying to do what we always did,” said series creator Masayoshi Sakurai.
“We’re trying to make the audience feel like we’re trying something new, that we’re pushing ourselves to be something that we never thought of before.”
There will be a “big bang” episode of the main stream anime, which will be set in the late 1980s.
This episode will also introduce new characters and will have some new moments, like Rito telling a young Chichi that he has a “new job” (the same job that Rito was previously given) and Ritsu telling a child that she will always have her heart, which is another new addition to the series and one that is not a part of the current continuity.
There will also be a few surprises, like a new line from Chichi’s older sister Ritsu, who will appear as Rito in the future.
The new episode will be released on the same day that the Main Stream Mainstream Anime will premiere on Disney XD.
The announcement that the show will be airing a new episode comes as no surprise, given that the company is planning to release the entire first season of the show.
“With the upcoming launch of the first season, we’re really hoping to have a big bang episode,” said Sakurai in a press release.
“This new episode, along with the rest of the animation that’s in the works, will be available exclusively on Disney’s online platforms for the first time in 2019.”
That release date was set at the end of March, but the series is still in the early stages of production, and we can’t wait to see where this series takes us.
